Shakespeare in the park

Telluride has hosted Shakespearean productions since the 1800's in historic local venues, such as the Masonic Lodge and the Elks Lodge.

Towns and cities across the US have put on Shakespeare in the Park productions since 1954. Telluride Repertory Theatre launched its annual production in 1990, with A Midsummer Night’s Dream put on in Elks Park. Since then, hundreds of local artists and audiences have taken part in vibrant reimaginings of The Bard’s classic plays, with the goal of making these stories accessible and entertaining for everyone.

In 2025, we celebrated the 35th Anniversary of this beloved tradition with The Two Gentlemen of Verona.

The Two Gentlemen of Verona

July 19 - 27, 2025

TT’s 35th Annual “Shakespeare in the Park”

Valentine and Proteus are best friends. That is, until they meet Silvia, and their lifelong friendship is put in serious jeopardy. Can they all find their happily-ever-after?

A love triangle, a forest, disguises, and a dog – The Two Gentlemen of Verona has it all. Shakespeare’s gloriously silly story of love, friendship and growing up bursts onto the Telluride Theatre stage in honor of our 35th Anniversary of Shakespeare in the Park.

Our take on Shakespeare’s classic comedy draws inspiration from 1990’s rom-coms, and features live music and an all-star cast of local actors. Join us ON the Town Park Stage for one of our town’s most beloved traditions.
